The Long and the Short of it

At OM EAST we are a team of career missionaries, but there are exceptions.

The EurAsia Support Team needs to maintain a continuity of ministry, achieved through relationships of trust and skill developed over many years. Most of us are long-term workers who have served on this team for ten, twenty or even thirty years. But short-term workers are also needed.

OM EAST ministers in a number of areas, but specialises in publishing high quality Christian literature and multimedia in up to 20 Eurasian languages. In the Literature and Media office we are blessed this year by two young short-termers. They both came with limited skills, but have both thrived under the training they received and quickly become productive.

Stephanie, a local university student, is working part-time with us from February until May, specialising in graphics and layout. She is a motivated and helpful short-term short-termer. We hope to see her return in the future.

Rebecca, an 18 year old from New Zealand who is with us for a year, is a long-term short-termer. Rebecca has been using her computer skills to learn layout, and a variety of other computer applications. She has quickly grasped the big picture of mission, and can’t wait to return next year for a career in missions. Rebecca plans to keep busy this summer with an Adobe InDesign training course, plus two outreaches in neighbouring countries.

We are encouraged to have Stephanie and Rebecca serving with us, even though they came with limited skills for a limited time. We especially need skilled Graphic Designers, for 2 to 2222 weeks, from very short to very long term. This could be your opportunity of a lifetime. Why not contact us?
That is the long and the short of it.

Persistence Paid Off

What makes recruiting so exciting for someone like me is the gift of seeing the potential in people. Those who are not gifted that way see recruiting as a lot of hard work for very little return. People like me cannot resist the challenge of finding quality workers for God.

We are unusual at OM EAST, in that we are primarily a support field. We are not out there winning thousands for Christ. We mainly produce the literature and media that helps those thousands to be reached and discipled. Most on our team measure their mission service in decades, not in months. So why would we bother to consider the offer of a one-month intern?

A New Hand at the Helm

An old hand on the team at OM EAST has become the new hand at the helm. Edwin has replaced Steve as the Field Leader.

Steve stepped down as Field Leader after completing a full term of 4 years, following some time as interim leader. The team honored Steve in December for faithfully steering the ship through some very turbulent waters. On his watch the OM Greater Europe team became OM EAST, EurAsia Support Team. He leaves the team in good heart, but he is not leaving the team.

Edwin has become the Field Leader after serving over 20 years on the team as the Chief Mechanic, and many years on the leadership team. A practical man, Edwin is not afraid to get his hands dirty. Steering this OM EAST ship will require learning some new skills for this veteran driver of trucks and cars. It may not always be plain sailing, but the crew has a good sense of direction, and positive expectations for the future with Edwin at the helm.

Our Vision:

“We want to see God glorified in Eurasia, especially former communist countries.
We focus on serving and strengthening the Church, bringing hope to forgotten peoples and making their needs known.”

We desire to accomplish our vision in…

  • Being a voice for the forgotten peoples and the persecuted church.
  • Providing high quality, Christian, educational literature and multimedia.
  • Equipping the needy and supplying resources through our local partners.
  • Providing training for specific needs.
